We're looking for a wide variety of content. We're interested in educational segments for use in both formal and informal settings, content related to sciences other than astronomy, and STEM content. Even if you think your entry is simple or basic - please submit it for consideration!
While full shows and longer content is certainly welcome for consideration, for judging and presentation purposes at DUG please prepare a short version or excerpt. In your message, note if you are interested in having the item considered for the DUG Awards.
Please test your item. You can delete the item from your local system and download it from the Digistar Cloud Library as a test. You may also solicit other Digistar users to download and test the item for you. Also, please be sure to let them know whether you want the submission entered as a demo only or for submission to the DUG Library and consideration for the Digistar Awards. FTP site name: ftp. Digistar cloud submissions must be submitted on or before August 7th. Please send demo materials in advance and do not plan on hand carrying demos to the meeting! We hope to have the following projection systems available for demos: a stereo-capable "8k" system in our main demo dome 11m diameter , and a stereo-capable "3. We'll also have a Digistar Outreach system available.
Please contact Marty Sisam if you would like to confirm video rendering parameters for any of the projection systems. We will coordinate and schedule a presentation time with you. If that will not be possible, please pre-record a brief personal greeting and introduction to be played before your entry. As a last resort, you may include additional information about your submission in your email to Karen. Door Prizes Following tradition, DUG meeting delegates bring a small gift from their home institution to be given away as part of a random "door prize" drawing.
Gifts highlighting local culture or your facility are ideal and are a great way to showcase your institution. You are not required to bring a door prize.
If you have small trinkets or other items that you would like to give to all delegates, that is also perfectly acceptable. When you arrive, please be sure your door prizes are given to Christy Moore. Explain the situation and give the delegate's name and any other useful information. The content will be presented in a lecture format. Some workshops are not intended to be "hands-on" seminars, but rather informational in nature. We will describe custom class creation, take a close look at how Javascript reads from and writes to Digistar objects, and also see how callbacks help Javascript respond to the Digistar run-time environment.
Because of our partnership with the Houston Independent School District, we test a random sample of our 20, HISD students every year - focusing on our successes and failures in teaching diurnal motion, moon phases, and the seasons - especially with students who speak English as a second language. Because of the pre-post testing and interviews with hundreds of students, we are beginning to understand how, when, and why we are teaching or confusing students.

It serves as a model for future telepresence projects we might consider. This will allow Digistar to control or be controlled by other equipment in the theatre. ART is a marriage of art and technology. Using the Digistar system, we add planetarium effects to an artist work to give it an extra dimension- immersing the guests in the universe of the artist.
ART - Reimagining Art in the Dome will show you how we bring art and technology together and how you can start it in your dome. This seminar will highlight over a dozen little-known but highly useful commands and features. This year we will be conducting training both before and after the DUG meeting. Space is limited and pre-registration is required for all training workshops.

D4, D5 Exoplanet Adventure Create a real-time exoplanet demo. First, using Photoshop, learn the process of creating and applying textures on exoplanets. Then learn different ways to script a real-time sequence to view your exoplanet. At the end of class, you'll have textures and a custom script to take home. We'll help you make a custom "sting" for the beginning, and you'll make a template that you can use for closing credits. Create 3D shapes, apply texture maps, export for real-time or to use in creation of Fulldome video.

D4, D5 Morning Session: Tuesday, August 11 Projector Swap and Align Full-day When hardware fails or regular maintenance items are due, it is sometimes necessary to change a projector in your theater.
Learn how to handle lenses, physically position projectors, do a hardware alignment and do a complete software alignment. This class will specifically cover cove-mounted projectors. D4, D5 Go Further with 3DS Max Continue to build basic modeling skills with basic particle creation, more in-depth texture mapping, basic animation and camera movement.
Class will include time for discussion and questions regarding individual projects. During this session, create a simple JavaScript example and learn basic syntax. This class covers basics, including importing dome masters, masking, color adjustments, and basic animation.
